Product Overview

The DX-8691 electrical weak point tester is designed for electrical-grade polyurethane film, plastic film and polypropylene film. It automatically ramps the applied DC voltage and determines the number of breakdown points per square meter of insulation material, giving a direct, quantitative read on film quality and process consistency.

The instrument is microcomputer controlled. Film travel speed and voltage rise rate are both settable. Once the target voltage is reached, the tester records voltage and current values in real time and logs every breakdown point as it occurs. At the end of the test the voltage returns to zero automatically and the system reports the number of weak points, weak point lines and weak points per square meter.

Working Principle

The test voltage is 0-10 kV DC with 1% fluctuation. After a weak point in the specimen breaks down, the tester restores the voltage to the preset value within about 0.1 s. The copper roller acts as the lower electrode and the conductive rubber as the upper electrode. The film travels at 2-5 m/min and breaks down at each weak point, with breakdown points accumulated and counted automatically. Film travel is counted automatically in square meters.

The tester suits quality control and incoming inspection of capacitor film, flexible packaging insulation layers and other thin dielectric films where localised weak spots lead to premature failure. Because breakdown points are counted against travel length in square meters, results are comparable between batches and between suppliers, which makes the unit useful for both R&D screening and production release testing.
